Shakkal

Shakkal

Resort Supervisor

Shakkal comes to Firehouse Pet Resort with four and a half years of experience as a veterinary technician, with three of those years at Firehouse. We’re eager for you to meet her, knowing you’ll appreciate her positive energy and leadership skills as she guides and supports the team who will care for your pets.

Shakkal’s focus will be on making pets feel comfortable at Firehouse Pet Resort as if they were at their own home. She’s well-trained in using Fear Free techniques to help calm both cats and dogs. For example, she uses gentle touch, slow movements, and treats if they’re food-motivated to help pets ease into their new environment.

Shakkal is a native Texan. She graduated with a degree in agriculture, majoring in animal science from Texas State University. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their beautiful daughter, Eliyah, hanging out with family and friends, eating out, dancing, watching movies, and volunteering to give back in her community. Shakkal grew up with dogs and just adopted her first cat, Spotzy.

Ashtin

Resort Attendant

Ashtin is an outgoing and personable animal lover who strives to make all clients and pets feel welcomed and appreciated. Her most important considerations for all pets are taking care of them on a personal level. She also makes each pet and family a priority. Ashtin’s personable demeaner allows her to quickly form deep connections with clients, even if she has just met them! She prides herself on being an excellent multitasker and quick learner.

Ashtin has been in the Round Rock area since she was a child. She has always had a passion for animals and has a Calico cat named Cali Bee. Her family has always loved the Havenese breed of dogs, so the family dog named Bohdi holds a special place in her heart. When not working, Ashtin enjoys photography, painting, drawing, and singing. She strives to learn new skills every day.

Resort Attendant

Nick’s passion for pets and desire to provide them top-notch care make him a valuable addition to Firehouse Pet Resort. He comes to work eager to see the resort visitors every day. To help pets feel comfortable and entertained, he provides them enrichment and closely monitored playtime. Nick is always willing to work with clients to accommodate any special requests they have for their pets and keeps an open line of communication with clients so they always know how their pet does at the resort.

Nick researches dog behaviors, body language, and breed information in order to better understand each individual pet and to help him continue to learn about pet needs. He currently attends Austin Community College, where he is working toward a degree in Biology. When not working, he enjoys exploring outdoors, hiking or swimming, with his Lab mix, Max.

Amber

Resort Technician

Amber’s love for all animals is one of the first things clients notice about her. She gives all pets extra love and attention while they are at the resort and ensures that all their needs are being met. Amber also utilizes Fear Free techniques and takes her time with all resort visitors so that they feel comfortable while visiting. Clients appreciate Amber’s informative and reassuring demeanor and her skillful communication habits. She works with animals in her free time and continues to take virtual courses and read academic articles published in the veterinary field in order to keep her skills current. Amber is comfortable with a wide array of animals, including poultry birds, and waterfowl; if it’s an animal, she wants to hug it and care for it to the best of her ability.

Amber’s pets are Magnus, a Siamese cat, and Lizzie, a Coonhound. When not working, she enjoys hiking, archery, reading, and writing.

Aly

Resort Technician

Aly understands that pets need time to adjust to new people and surroundings, so she is patient with each resort visitor to ensure they feel comfortable. (She also always has a pocket of treats and a few minutes for extra love and cuddles, which always helps.) Her positive attitude, kindness, and dedication make resort visits easy and stress-free for pets and owners. As a Resort Technician, she knows how to draw blood and utilize safe handling techniques and Fear Free practices. She is constantly learning and practicing important techniques, adjustments, and pet behavior to keep her skills current.

Aly currently attends Austin Community College, where she is working on getting her Veterinary Technician license. When not working, she loves to spend time with her pets: Copper, a Terrier mix; Chase, a Corgi mix; and Stanley, a Domestic Shorthair cat.

Susie

Client Service Coordinator

For Susie, showing compassion in every situation while going above and beyond for clients is the most important part of client care! She wants to make every visit as enjoyable as possible by providing high-quality customer service and unlimited pet cuddles.

Originally from Illinois, Susie came to Austin to raise her three beautiful children. Soon after, she started her career as a Veterinary Technician and discovered her passion for understanding animal behavior and providing first-rate pet care. After several years, she decided to transition to the role of CSC where she felt she could have a larger impact by establishing long-lasting bonds with clients. At Firehouse, Susie became an instant fit with her can-do attitude and sincerity.

In her free time, Susie enjoys spending time with her daughter (Hannah) and five pets (Derby, Chloe, Boo, Quincey, and Gambino). She also likes going to concerts, watching live music, and spending time with friends.

Hailey

Client Service Coordinator

Hailey was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho and moved to Austin, Texas in 2016. She completed a degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Education and Promotion in 2018 and is excited to bring a special perspective to the veterinary world. Hailey is passionate about preventative medicine and empowering pet owners to learn more about keeping their pets happy and healthy.

With a background in customer service, she wants to do everything she can to make your visit simple and enjoyable. In her free time, Hailey enjoys reading and playing games with her friends. She has two cats, Rhaegar and Lila.

Kenneth

Kenneth’s friendly and upbeat personality is a welcome addition to our team! His forward thinking makes visits easy for our patients and clients. and he strives to be a positive asset where he is needed most. With thoughtfulness, versatility, and creativity, Kenneth is eager to take on tasks to figure out how to help, as well as improve the workflow of the hospital.

When not at Firehouse, you can find him hanging out with his family or playing board games, Kenneth has two pets of his own, Dory ( blue betta fish) and Cookie, a poodle/schnauzer mix.
