Shakkal

Shakkal

Resort Supervisor

Shakkal comes to Firehouse Pet Resort with four and a half years of experience as a veterinary technician, with three of those years at Firehouse. We’re eager for you to meet her, knowing you’ll appreciate her positive energy and leadership skills as she guides and supports the team who will care for your pets.

Shakkal’s focus will be on making pets feel comfortable at Firehouse Pet Resort as if they were at their own home. She’s well-trained in using Fear Free techniques to help calm both cats and dogs. For example, she uses gentle touch, slow movements, and treats if they’re food-motivated to help pets ease into their new environment.

Shakkal is a native Texan. She graduated with a degree in agriculture, majoring in animal science from Texas State University. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their beautiful daughter, Eliyah, hanging out with family and friends, eating out, dancing, watching movies, and volunteering to give back in her community. Shakkal grew up with dogs and just adopted her first cat, Spotzy.

Sarah

Sarah

Resort Attendant

Clients appreciate Sarah’s communication, transparency, and collaboration skills. She wants visits to be comfortable and stress-free for clients and pets. Her number one priority is always the resort guests and their health and happiness. Her positive, encouraging attitude helps visitors feel welcome.
Sarah ensures that guests feel safe and loved. She is patient with pets who are nervous, provides extra toys and affection, and works to learn each unique pet so she can provide the best care.

Sarah currently attends Texas Tech University, where she is studying Wildlife Conservation with a concentration in Zoology. She loves learning new skills and ways to improve her quality of care.

She shares her home with her three dogs: Gus (Black Lab) and Gracie and Rigby (Rhodesian Ridgebacks), and her Calico mix, Billie. She loves all animals but has a soft spot for cats. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends, and creating art.

Grant

Resort Attendant

Grant’s goal is to ensure that each pet had a comfortable and happy stay at the resort. He enjoys providing updates to clients about how their pet did while at the resort. Because he treats each pet as his own, he is able to form lasting bonds with the animals and their owners.

Clients appreciate Grant’s communication skills and that he is always available to answer questions. Grant wants to continue to improve his care, so he focuses on what extra things he can do for each individual pet. His hard-working attitude and empathy make him a valuable member of the resort.
A huge dog lover, Grant is always excited to meet the dogs who come to the resort. At home, he has four cats who have stolen his heart: Alex, Hugo, Jack, and Percy. When not working, he loves to play games, draw, listen to music, and spend time with friends.

Amber

Amber

Resort Technician

Amber’s love for all animals is one of the first things clients notice about her. She gives all pets extra love and attention while they are at the resort and ensures that all their needs are being met. Amber also utilizes Fear Free techniques and takes her time with all resort visitors so that they feel comfortable while visiting. Clients appreciate Amber’s informative and reassuring demeanor and her skillful communication habits. She works with animals in her free time and continues to take virtual courses and read academic articles published in the veterinary field in order to keep her skills current. Amber is comfortable with a wide array of animals, including poultry birds, and waterfowl; if it’s an animal, she wants to hug it and care for it to the best of her ability.

Amber’s pets are Magnus, a Siamese cat, and Lizzie, a Coonhound. When not working, she enjoys hiking, archery, reading, and writing.

Haidy

Resort Attendant

Haidy creates powerful bonds with clients and pets. She discusses each pet’s individual needs with the client to ensure that the pet receives the best care. She wants the resort to feel safe and calm for all animals. She makes clients’ lives easier by using thorough, detailed communication. Haidy wants each pet to receive appropriate care and lots of love while they are staying at the resort.

Since keeping pets safe and happy is the priority at the resort, Haidy always looks for ways to help pets stay comfortable. She uses Fear Free techniques and proper handling for all pets.

Currently, Haidy is working on her Pre-Med degree. Her goal is to transfer to Texas A&M to earn her DVM and become a veterinarian. She brings the new skills she learns in class to the resort to help further develop her level of care.

Outside of work, Haidy enjoys spending time with friends and family and taking late-night walks with her partner, Joshua.

Kaylee

Kaylee

Resort Attendant

Kaylee understands that each pet is unique and needs individualized care and attention. Her dedication to each pet who comes into the resort helps clients and pets feel secure. Kaylee likes to keep clients informed about how their pet is doing while at the resort. This allows her to build trust with both clients and resort guests.

To keep pets happy, Kaylee ensures that they have comfortable kennels, lots of toys and love, and proper exercise. She is constantly learning new skills so that she can provide even better care. Currently, she is earning her Fear Free certification.

A true cat lover, Kaylee’s heart belongs to her tabby cat, Taffy. Because she understands the value of self-care, she enjoys spending time recharging-reading or watching television while cuddling with her cat. Otherwise, she is using her creative mind to decorate her home.

Karla

Resort Attendant

Karla maintains positive and open communication with clients to help build lasting relationships. She treats each pet as her own. By using Fear Free techniques, she strives to ensure every pet feels safe and comfortable during their stay at the resort. She previously volunteered at a vet clinic and earned her Level 1 Veterinary Assistant Certification. Karla is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Karla plans on attending Texas Tech University where she will major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Currently, she is working towards her Level II Certified Veterinary Assistant Certification. Karla also values spending time with her family and her black Lab mix, Sultan.

Susie

For Susie, showing compassion in every situation while going above and beyond for clients is the most important part of client care! She wants to make every visit as enjoyable as possible by providing high-quality customer service and unlimited pet cuddles.

Originally from Illinois, Susie came to Austin to raise her three beautiful children. Soon after, she started her career as a Veterinary Technician and discovered her passion for understanding animal behavior and providing first-rate pet care. After several years, she decided to transition to the role of CSC where she felt she could have a larger impact by establishing long-lasting bonds with clients. At Firehouse, Susie became an instant fit with her can-do attitude and sincerity.

In her free time, Susie enjoys spending time with her daughter (Hannah) and five pets (Derby, Chloe, Boo, Quincey, and Gambino). She also likes going to concerts, watching live music, and spending time with friends.

Hailey was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho and moved to Austin, Texas in 2016. She completed a degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Education and Promotion in 2018 and is excited to bring a special perspective to the veterinary world. Hailey is passionate about preventative medicine and empowering pet owners to learn more about keeping their pets happy and healthy.

With a background in customer service, she wants to do everything she can to make your visit simple and enjoyable. In her free time, Hailey enjoys reading and playing games with her friends. She has two cats, Rhaegar and Lila.

Kenneth’s friendly and upbeat personality is a welcome addition to our team! His forward thinking makes visits easy for our patients and clients. and he strives to be a positive asset where he is needed most. With thoughtfulness, versatility, and creativity, Kenneth is eager to take on tasks to figure out how to help, as well as improve the workflow of the hospital.

When not at Firehouse, you can find him hanging out with his family or playing board games, Kenneth has two pets of his own, Dory ( blue betta fish) and Cookie, a poodle/schnauzer mix.

Abel

Client Service Coordinator

Abel’s positive attitude, sympathetic nature, and upbeat energy help him connect with clients. He believes communication and honesty are key when helping clients feel comfortable with their pets’ care, so he makes himself available to answer any questions clients may have. As someone who values education, he is constantly learning how to improve his care for pets and how to anticipate clients’ needs. He spends time studying changing veterinarian trends and learning from his peers. Abel strives to find the best solution for any situation, working with clients to create the best possible plan.

Abel studied Business and Marketing at Austin Community College. On the weekends, he likes to play games with his friends, relax with his family, or hang out with his four dogs: Loki, Sakura, Kiba, and Ruby.

Mark

Client Service Coordinator

Mark goes the extra mile to ensure clients and patients are comfortable, from before their appointment even begins. A true problem-solver, he will find a solution for clients’ questions or concerns. Mark educates himself with veterinary best practices. Clients appreciate his helpful and friendly demeanor.

Mark attended Le Cordon Bleu Texas Culinary Academy, where he received his BA in Culinary Arts. When not working, he loves to play board games; he and his husband are huge fans of Gloomhaven. He shares his heart with Rocket (a Lab/Great Pyrenees mix) and Chelsea (a Chihuahua).

Lili

Client Service Coordinator

Lili focuses on communication and compassion to ensure that clients feel welcome. To ensure patients receive top care, Lili collaborates with the entire veterinary team. She knows excellent care goes beyond the appointment. So, she communicates with her clients to ensure pets are doing well after their visits.

To stay current on her job skills, Lili seeks feedback from her coworkers and attends continued education classes. She also works to improve her communication skills.

While Lili loves all animals, cats are her favorite. She has two of her own: Piper, a Siamese, and Pipa, a Bengal. In her free time, she loves cuddling with her pets and watching movies. She also enjoys cooking and trying out new recipes.
